Sapporo City is located in the central region of Hokkaido, Japan. It is the capital of Hokkaido and the seat of the Ishikari Promotion Bureau. It is also one of the cities designated by government ordinances. With a population of over 1.95 million, it is the largest city in Hokkaido and the fifth most populous city in Japan. It contains 35% of the population of Hokkaido, and the Sapporo metropolitan area contains about half of the population of Hokkaido.
